Thorpdale Bakery & Post Office is an award-winning bakery and Australia Post outlet acquired by the current owners in 2011.
The business runs from double-fronted premises ideally located on the main road in Thorpdale and opposite Pioneer Park, a beautifully maintained park and picnic area with attractions such as a children's playground and war memorial.
With very little competition and a prominent street front location, the Thorpdale Bakery has become a stopping point for visitors to the area and a meeting place for locals.
In 2018, Thorpdale Bakery won the Great Aussie Pie Competition which was held in Melbourne as part of the Fine Food Australia expo. For more than 30 years the Official Great Aussie Pie Competition has built a history supported by pride and passion among bakers and pastry cooks in the art of pie-making while forming an industry benchmark for excellence and raising the quality standards of pies and sausage rolls throughout Australia.
In 2020, the Australia Post outlet was acquired and integrated into the bakery premises. The Australian Postal Corporation (Australia Post) offer Licensed Post Offices excellent benefits including access to management and business systems, ongoing training and support, an annually revised fee and commission structure with discounts for purchasing Australia Post products and an opt in for point-of-sale and marketing programs.
The business is owned and operated by a husband-and-wife team. The bakery employs 10 staff, and the owners work approximately 40 hours per week combined. The post office employs one casual staff member who works around 8.5 hours per week. One owner works an additional 32 hours per week in the post office side of the business.
There is plenty of opportunity to grow this business further. The current owners perform very little advertising. There is opportunity for growth with a comprehensive marketing plan including a dedicated business website. Utilisation of social media across all platforms would also be beneficial.
