Seaside motel for sale in historic SA fishing village

An award winning motel in the South Australian coastal town of Robe has been listed for sale.

Colliers International is marketing the Robe Harbour View Hotel, which has been inducted into the Tripadvisor Hall of Fame, to independent operators or existing hotel chains.

“This is a perfect opportunity for buyers looking for a sea change or to expand their current hotel or motel business,” listing agent Chet Al said.

The motel consists of 14 rooms, an onsite manager’s residence, barbecue area, laundry and broadband connection, and commercial kitchen.

The site, at 2 Sturt Street, measures about 2072 square metres of zoned residential character land.

There is also the potential of establishing a restaurant or bar, with views of the marina and bay, as well as conference facilities.

In addition, the successful bidder will be given first right of negotiation over a residentially zoned allotment adjoining 2a Sturt Street.

Robe, an old fishing village on the Great Ocean Road between Adelaide and Melbourne, is finding increasing favour with tourists, according to Mr Al.

“The wealth of opportunities and the flexibility of usage make this motel an excellent investment,” he said.

Mr Al said the property’s location on the marina, and its views of Guichen Bay, made it well suited to a variety of uses – accommodation, function and conference facilities.

Current owners of 15 years Robyn and Don Maddern, said that the motel was a good investment.

“Our motel is a great lifestyle,” Mrs Maddern said. “It has been easy to operate and a great place to live, with the added bonus of our children and grandchildren constantly coming home to holiday.”
