Freshii to open first Australian store at Perth's Carillon City
A Canadian food chain known for its nutritious take on fast food and gamesmanship with McDonald’s will open its first Australian store in Perth.
Freshii has signed a seven-year lease for space in Perth’s biggest CBD retail complex, Carillon City, in a deal brokered by CBRE’s Craig Olde and Richard Cash.

The company’s first outlet opened in Toronto in 2005 serving healthy food such as wraps, burritos, salads, soups, juices and frozen yoghurt.
It now has franchises in more than 75 cities and 15 countries worldwide, according to the Freshii website. The chain is growing fast with 120 of its stores, which number around 200 in total, opening in 2015.
“The Freshii brand represents a new era of main stream perception around convenience food, contradicting the historic view that food served quickly was by nature unhealthy,” Mr Olde said.
In 2015, in an open letter from chief executive Matthew Corrin, Freshii challenged McDonald’s to accept a partnership deal and open a co-branded store to promote healthier eating. The burger chain did not respond to the offer.
In June, Perth’s first dessert kebab bar opened in the Carillon City food court.
Carillon City, which is currently for sale, opened in 1982 and merged with the neighbouring City Arcade in 1998 after being bought by Carillon co-owners Hawaiian and Brookfield Multiplex.
It has a total lettable area of 18,059 square metres and stands on a 5724-square-metre site between the Hay Street and Murray Street malls.
Anchored by Topshop Topman, the four-level centre has 104 specialty tenancies and 47 office suites.
