Japanese theme park Huis Ten Bosch launches floating hotel pods
A Japanese theme park has come up with an overnight accommodation solution for when water views just aren’t enough.
The Dutch-themed Huis Ten Bosch is reportedly planning a spherical capsule hotel room, that will float across the sea overnight, allowing adventurous holiday makers to gaze up at the stars through its glass ceiling.
Dubbed the Mizukami Hotel, it sleeps up to four in 38 square metres of space across two storeys, which will house beds, showers and toilets.
It’s not just aimless drifting either, as Huis Ten Bosch has bought a 4-hectare island in Naruma Bay, about six kilometres from the ferry port in their replica Dutch town. Currently uninhabited, they’re intending to turn it into a resort.
The idea is that the spheres will drift there during the evening and guests will be able to enjoy the virtual and augmented reality-focussed attractions to be built on the island, once they arrive in the morning.
The plan is to have it open by the end of the year, with two of the bubble-rooms slated initially. Guests would be charged between $US260 and $US330 a night ($340 and $460).
Huis Ten Bosch also has a hotel staffed entirely by robots – including robot dinosaurs – and life-sized replicas of traditional Dutch buildings.
This latest development isn’t great for the seasick, maybe, but for those who can’t get enough of the sea and sky on their holidays, it’ll be perfect.
