Perth Stadium hits construction milestone as structure reaches full height
The Perth Stadium project has marked a construction milestone, reaching its full height of 42 metres and now one-third of the way to completion.
The new 60,000-seat stadium at Burswood Peninsula, due to be opened in 2018, will host football, rugby, soccer and cricket matches as well as entertainment and special events.
The first of 50 roof trusses that will support the fabric roof that will cover 85 per cent of the arena is now in place.
The 45-metre-long steel trusses have been manufactured locally by Henderson contractor Civmec Construction and Engineering.
Some 14,000 tonnes of steel will be used in the structure’s frame, with 2700 tonnes already installed.

Premier Colin Barnett said it was only a year ago the first concrete pile had been driven into the ground.
“The progress since then has been remarkable and construction is now 33 per cent complete based on design and procurement status,” Mr Barnett said.
“With the first of the roof trusses installed recently, the final height of the stadium is now clearly visible.”
Next year is expected to be the busiest phase of construction and about 1000 workers will be on site at the peak of the project.

Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies said WA businesses had significant involvement in the project, with builder Brookfield Multiplex awarding subcontracts to local companies worth more than $159 million.
Last month, it was revealed the cost of laying turf at the new stadium would be between $5 million and $8 million.
