Perth's Sunmoon resort for sale with high-rise development potential
New development up to 18 storeys in height may be permitted at the site of a resort in Scarborough that has just been listed for sale.
CBRE Hotels’ David Kennedy and Ryan McGinnity have been appointed to sell the four-star Sunmoon Boutique Resort in an expressions-of-interest campaign. It is believed to be the only major hotel with accommodation now for sale in Perth.
The four-star hotel, which started trading in 2000 at 200 West Coast Highway, is about 100 metres from Scarborough Beach and comprises 45 suites in two buildings.
The complex is on a 3035-square-metre site in the beachside precinct with more than 60 metres of frontage to the highway.
Mr Kennedy said the “profitable hospitality operation” was in one of Perth’s most revered coastal locations. He expected strong interest from local, interstate and international groups.
The Scarborough Beach foreshore is being revitalised in a $101 million project funded by the state government and the City of Stirling. The plan includes a 24/7 pool by the beach.
“The Sunmoon Boutique Resort is positioned to capitalise on the ongoing revitalisation and circa $100 million redevelopment of the Scarborough area, which is set to make it one of the state’s most popular beachside destinations,” Mr Kennedy said.

Mr McGinnity said the property’s mixed-use commercial-residential R160 zoning allowed further development of up to 18 levels of hotel suites and apartments, as well as cafes, bars and other commercial use, subject to council approval.
“At this current time there are no major accommodation hotels on the market in Perth, which adds to the demand for this hotel,” he said.
The hotel is a 15-minute drive from the Perth CBD. It has a 24-hour reception, gym and outdoor pool, a restaurant and bar, function-meetings rooms and secure undercover parking.
Expressions of interest close on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 2pm (WA time).
