Sandstone quarry in Queensland's Helidon region for sale
A Queensland quarry in an area renowned for providing the sandstone for some of Brisbane’s most prominent public buildings has been listed for sale.
The Cathedral Quarry – at 512 Goldmine Road, in Helidon, outside of Toowoomba – is one of the quarries in a region which supplied sandstone for “St John’s Cathedral, parts of State Parliament and the Great Court of the University of Queensland,” according to the listing agent Brian Hodges, of Ray White Toowoomba.
Helidon sandstone was first mined in the mid-nineteenth century and has since been used in other parts of Australia and exported around the world.
The quarry is currently not in operation, and fellow listing agent John Dwyer, confirmed that the sale was on behalf of a “third party”.
PriceFinder records show that the property last changed hands in 2012, when the The Corporation of the Lesser Chapter of the Cathedral Church of Brisbane sold it for $250,000.
Mr Dwyer refused to be drawn on the price, stating only that “it’s a very qualified market” for properties of this type.

He said the quarry had current local authority approvals in place and a Queensland mining lease which runs until 2032.
It covers an area of approximately 12.33 hectares and has easy access to the Warrego Highway.
”Cathedral Quarry is being offered for sale on an ‘as is where is basis’ which includes plant and machinery,” Mr Hodges said.
The expressions of interest campaign for the quarry closes at 4pm on Thursday, July 20, 2017.
