Wealthy silk Allan Myers puts Western District run on the market
Wealthy lawyer and pastoralist Allan Myers, AC KC, and his family have put a prize grazing aggregation in Victoria’s Western District on the market, as they consolidate their portfolio in the state around Dunkeld, at the foot of the Grampians.
Born in Hamilton and raised in Dunkeld, the prominent lawyer – ranked 161st last year on the Financial Review Rich List with a fortune of $928 million – has parlayed that wealth into the family-owned agribusiness-focused Dunkeld Pastoral.
While the core of the platform is a suite of farms around the small town of Dunkeld – where it also runs the award-winning Royal Mail Hotel – it has diverse interests and investments that extend to holdings in the Kimberley.
But in Victoria at least, they are rationalising that portfolio, putting on the market 1208-hectare Condah Hills at 190 Treloars Road, a large-scale grazing and irrigation enterprise at Condah, south of Hamilton.
Less than 200 metres away at 108 Butter Factory Road a support property known as Condah Dairy on 125 hectares is also on offer, and the two properties are available individually or together. JLL’s Jock Grimshaw and Chris Lawlor are appointed.
“Condah Hills is a marquee Western District holding, positioned as a true production powerhouse,” Grimshaw said.
“The past five to six years have seen extensive capital works undertaken across the property – from irrigation upgrades to pasture renovation, structural improvements, and subdivisional fencing – creating a genuinely turnkey asset.”
A big feature of the holding is its irrigation capability. It has about 80 hectares under centre pivot irrigation and scope for further development. The enterprise is underpinned by secure water entitlements totalling 1155 megalitres annually, supporting irrigation and livestock operations.
“It provides a significant buffer against climatic risk and enhances both operational and financial performance,” Grimshaw said.
Usually dubbed the country’s richest barrister, Myers is often engaged in high-profile legal dramas – such as that between billionaire investor Alex Waislitz and his former wife, billionaire heiress Heloise Pratt – while quietly establishing a substantial agribusiness and investment platform.
Intensely private, he is also willing to take a stand on issues outside the courtroom and the paddock. In 2024, Myers resigned his Melbourne Club membership over an alleged refusal to admit a new member of Malaysian-Chinese origin.
