Land System
'Valley Fields' is situated in the highly fertile Wongarbon area. Made up of predominantly heavy red loam Kurrajong country, suited to a variety of cropping options and lucerne production. Black basalt soils constitute approximately 15-20% of the property.
Production
Historically the property has shown its versatility with both livestock and cropping but is extremely well known for its prime lamb production and fattening ability. Capacity to carry approximately 1600 ewes with consistent lambing percentages above 150% with lambs carried out to kill weight and or suckers with additional farming for fodder, hay and grain storage. Ewe numbers have been cut back at times to also accommodate up to 50 cows and calves. Lucerne is extensively used as part of the operation, with a strong rotational program in place, keeping soils fertile and disease free.
Approximately 75-80% of the property is arable with Canola, Lupins, Prime Hard Wheat, Cow Peas, Winter Grazing Wheats, Oats and Barley all successfully grown. Approximately 95 Ha of the property still maintains very strong natural grasslands, allowing for flexibility within the cropping and breeding programs.
Currently the property is carrying 600 ewes plus lambs, 20 cows and calves with approximately 50% of the property under fallow or crop.
Management
The property is fenced into 22 paddocks plus smaller holding paddocks. Fencing is in excellent condition with good access to the stockyards.
Location
Located only 10 km from Dubbo and 2.5 km from Wongarbon, with Mitchell Highway frontage. Close to schools, shopping and medical facilities. The Dubbo airport flies to multiple locations around Australia and the train connects Dubbo to Sydney and Newcastle.
