About Giralang
The street names of Giralang are taken from First Nations and English words for stars, constellations, and astronomers. As Giralang's newest star, G+ will draw the community together and provide a level of amenity the neighbourhood has not experienced in many years.
TPD took over the site in 2023 and is proceeding with the approved design. We are excited to restart the project and most importantly, to bring it to completion for the residents of Giralang, surrounding suburbs and the wider community.
G+ is already garnering much local support, which is sure to benefit any business who chooses to call this space their new home. The ground floor tenancies will become an integral part of the day-to-day life of the suburb both for G+ residents and the wider neighbourhood.
Commercial viability
G+ reinstates a local centre to Giralang which has been absent for over 18 years. The site has good community infrastructure through the adjoining Giralang Primary School and associated early learning centre. The Giralang District Playing Fields have four soccer pitches and an AFL oval used by local sporting clubs.
In 2021, Giralang residents spent an estimated $24.4 million on food and grocery. By 2023, the potential first year of opening of a Giralang supermarket, spending will be approximately $25.62 million. From 2021 to 2027, the projected growth in the spending market is an average of 3.4% per annum.
Giralang offers an attractive business proposition
The Giralang Shops site is an established community precinct based around a primary school, childcare and fuel outlet. The area has been without a local shopping facility for many years and given the established and older population base, a modern centre backed by a strong operator should be well received by local residents.
The area is an attractive leafy suburb of well-maintained homes with a high proportion of families with children.
The contemporary design and simple layout with convenient onsite parking will contrast with the aging and busy Kaleen Centre and the multi-level parking at Belconnen. There has been little change in supermarket floorspace in the wider Belconnen area for many years. The development will change perceptions of the area and draw people in from outside the suburb.
